2 ways oversized vehicles make the roads more dangerous

Large vehicles are very popular in America right now. Many people are just commuting almost every time they drive, with only one person in the car at a time, but they still buy massive pick-up trucks and SUVs.

Unfortunately, it is everyone else who pays the price for this trend in automotive design. These larger vehicles make the roads far more dangerous. Below are two ways that they do so.

Large vehicles cause accidents

First of all, these oversized vehicles directly cause accidents because they have large blind spots. In many of them, if a child were standing in front of the vehicle, the driver wouldn’t be able to see them over the hood at all. Some studies have even experimented by having lines of children sit in front of these vehicles. It often takes around 10 children before the driver can actually see them.

They also make those accidents worse

On top of that, not only do these large vehicles make accidents more likely to occur, but they make them worse when they do happen. This is because a vehicle with a tall, blunt front end is not going to knock a pedestrian up onto the hood. It is going to knock them down, where they’re at risk of being run over by the vehicle. Pedestrian accidents involving SUVs and pick-up trucks, then, are more likely to result in severe injuries or fatalities.
